BYD has launched the third-generation BYD Qin Plus DM-i in China, one of the country’s best-known affordable plug-in hybrid sedans. The new car is larger, goes further on electricity and can now be ordered with a roof-mounted lidar for advanced driver assistance, all while starting at about $11,450.
Prices
| Version | Guide price | Limited-time price |
|---|---|---|
| 140 km Leading | $11,890 | $11,450 |
| 220 km Beyond | $13,530 | $13,080 |
| 220 km Excellence | $15,020 | $14,570 |
All three versions are offered about $450 below the guide price for a limited time.
Bigger body, longer range
The sedan is now 4,840 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,498 mm tall, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase, which is 82 mm longer than before. The front end and fastback profile are new, while the full-width taillights remain.
Power comes from BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid system: a 1.5-litre engine (74 kW) and a 120 kW (161 hp) electric motor. Blade LFP batteries of 16.2 kWh and 24.3 kWh give 140 km or 220 km of CLTC electric range. Charging from 30% to 80% takes as little as 20 minutes.
BYD claims a combined range of up to 2,290 km and as little as 2.58 l/100 km (NEDC) with a depleted battery.
Lidar and new cabin
The optional God’s Eye B system with lidar supports city and highway navigation assistance plus automated parking. Inside, the DiLink 150 system brings an 8.8-inch driver display and a 10.1-inch or 12.8-inch central screen.
Why it matters
The Qin family is under pressure: sales fell 54.7% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2026, to 207,589 cars. A bigger, better-equipped Qin Plus at almost the same price is BYD’s answer to a fierce price war in China’s family sedan segment.
